Bonjour
It’s now five years we arrived at the shores of Lake Geneva.
We originally planned for three or maybe four years. However, we still
like the place, our jobs and the activities we pursue. On top of the
“usual suspects”, biking, hiking and snowshoeing in winter,
Yasuko has recently decided to join Philippe for workouts at the gym.
Not to get bored, Yasuko is still working on her pottery and yoga skills
– unchanged. Philippe has started theory classes to get the blue
water
sailing permit. In May, there is a first one-week of sailing practice.
Needed are a total of 1’000 nautical miles (about 1’800
km).
We have thought about buying a flat. There was a nice opportunity last
year. Everything was ready to sign. Then we got cold feet. The apartment
was like a symbol for “comfort zone” (others might call
that more positively "stability" or "security").
Are we going to spend another considerable part of our life here? Do
we want to give away our freedom to move on, anytime - quickly if we
like? We decided to remain tenants. Our flat is nice. We would love
it had a bigger kitchen which would allow us to start the “cooking
exchange” project we have in mind for a while. The idea is to
find a group of people with varied cooking skills and to have convivial
time with people from all over the world while learning to cook new
dishes, eating and drinking. If anybody has a kitchen big enough…
let us know.
Yasuko still travels a few times a year for her job, once or twice to
Asia. It is a great opportunity to meet friends or family and to enjoy
good food. She is soon going to Japan - no, no, not for the food, family
or friends - but to sell IMD’s MBA program to some big Japanese
companies. She secretly hopes that there will be some “English
only” speakers, as she wouldn’t be sure whether she could
deliver the message as adequately in Japanese as she can in English
– too long abroad!
a bientôt
Yasuko & Philippe
